Tasting Notes: Sophisticated and light-tasting but not sweet

Where to buy: $6.50 from leading convenience stores and supermarkets

Chandon NV Brut Rose

In the 1960s, Moët & Chandon began exploring the potential for producing world class sparkling wines outside France. Having established successful Chandon Estates in Argentina, Brazil and California, they saw the opportunity to produce a premium quality sparkling wine in Yarra Valley, Australia, in 1986. The site for the newly named Domaine Chandon was formerly an old dairy farm called Green Point and has the perfect combination of cool climate and great soil.

Region: Yarra Valley, Strathbogie, the King and Buffalo Valleys (Victoria) and Coonawarra (South Australia).

Variety: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir

Tasting Notes: Fresh ripe black cherries, citrus and stone fruit notes dominate the nose, complimented by freshly baked pie crust aromas. The entry is gentle and creamy with mouthfilling stone fruits, raspberry and vanilla icecream characters. Soft citrus tones keep the palate fresh and balanced. A long, generous palate and a bright, crisp finish.

Where to buy: $40, from leading supermarkets

Château Filhot Sauternes 2009

The white wines of Sauternes are famed for their rich sweetness obtained by a meticulous harvesting in late autumn of grapes that have attained a high concentration of sugar. The wine ferments to approximately 14 degrees of alcohol, leaving a large amount of unfermented residual sugar, which gives it its luscious sweetness. From 1 September, Singapore Airlines will feature the premium Château Filhot Sauternes 2009 as the first of series of sweet white wines for its Suites and First Class passengers.

Region: Sauternes, Bordeaux, France

Varieties: 60% Semillon, 36% Sauvignon, 4% Muscadelle

Tasting Notes: Bright yellow-gold with floral aromas that contain white summer fruits and a touch of citrus and honey. The honeyed flavours continue on the palate, which is fully sweet, richly smooth with natural acidity to give beautiful length and balance.

Where to buy: Singapore Airlines Suites and First Class (price unavailable)

Katnook Estate Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Odyssey Cabernet Sauvignon is one of Katnook Estate’s two iconic wines, the other being Prodigy Shiraz. The concentrated and powerful Odyssey is selected from the most outstanding parcels of intense Cabernet fruit, from specific vineyard rows planted on rich clay terra rossa loams over a thick hard layer of limestone. The 2006 vintage was recently awarded a five-star rating by Australian wine authority, James Holliday, in Australian Wine Companion 2012.

Region: Coonawarra, South Australia

Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

Tasting Notes: Developed colour, a typical cedary bouquet reflecting 36 months in predominantly French oak Barriques. Has savoury, minty characters with considerable length and persistence, the core of sweet fruit within that bundle breaking free on the finish and aftertaste.

Where to buy: $58, from Hai Choo Wines (48 Toh Guan Road East, #06-119Enterprise Hub, Tel: 6515 6538/9)
