Located on the fifth floor of the National Gallery, this swanky 90-seater serves Italian cuisine at prices that won’t burn a big hole in the pocket — which is pleasantly surprising for a restaurant of this set-up and calibre. Brought to you by the team who also runs Osteria Art, Aura is positioned more as a place for friends to get together. You can find table arrangements meant for large groups, although more intimate seating is available in the inner sanctum of the restaurant. The grilled octopus served with crispy egg is a lovely starter, crisp at the edges and tender without being overly chewy. Equally enjoyable is the sweet scallops crudo with shaved aromatic truffles and ikura with greens. As for mains, you can find artisanal pastas made in-house, served with the choicest ingredients like smoky Avruga caviar, foie gras, and so on. The burrata cheese ravioli is worth a try especially if you enjoy cheese in your dishes. A dish of bone marrow is served roasted accompanied with sliced grass-fed sirloin or beef tagliata. A la carte offerings aside, the set menus are just as pleasing and reasonably priced too. After you’re done with dinner, head to the Aura Sky Lounge for a postprandial tipple and take in a panoramic view of the city skyline with the not-too-distant Marina Bay Sands acting as a backdrop.
