Romance, swank and nostalgia—that’s what in store at InterContinental Singapore’s newly opened jazz-and-cocktails salon, Idlewild.

Named after the old moniker for the John F Kennedy International Airport, Idlewild is a suave hat tip to the golden age of air travel and all its glamour. The interiors certainly look the part, resplendent in mahogany and brass, with slinky chandeliers, mother-of-pearl table-tops and a gilded cabinet of rare spirits and vintage trinkets. Cocooned by the sultry tunes of the four-piece jazz band, a night out at Idlewild is a transportive experience.

It’s only fitting that the drinks menu too offers a traipse around the world. Charting the journey is Andy Griffiths, who draws inspiration from cities along the Transatlantic Route to plot a series of cocktail tributes. Mexico, for instance, is represented in the form of Sugarloaf ($24), a tall number with exuberant flashes of pineapple rum, fizzy house-fermented pineapple beer, tamarind and lime—complete with a mini ‘taco’ of pineapple leather. Passage to Havana ($30), on the other hand, plays up Cuba’s liaison with cigars by means of tobacco tincture layered over Cuban rum, Amontillado and Pedro Ximénez. Paris, Rome, London are some other ports of call on this imbibable journey.
