Odette restaurant and six other Singapore restaurants made it to the top 50 at the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019 awards announced on 26 March at Wynn Macau.

Our deepest congratulations to Odette restaurant for taking first place at the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019 awards sponsored by S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. Moving up from its 28th position last year, Odette’s top ranking is particularly special, being the first time a Singapore restaurant has earned that honour.

In our interview with the Odette team not too long ago, chef Julien stressed that maintaining consistency was the key in running a restaurant at such a high level. We suspect this accolade will just be another push for them to keep reaching for the stars.

Other notable Singapore restaurants who made it on the list are Nouri, a restaurant opened in 2017 who makes its debut on the top-50 list at number 39, and JAAN, who leapt from 44th to 32nd place. Practising crossroads cooking, or a culinary philosophy that focuses on joining the dots between different cuisines, chef Ivan Brehm and his team at Nouri spend a lot of time on R&D in producing dishes such as a coconut risotto made with aged carnoroli rice, or a black pepper grouper with fermented sweet potato noodle.

In JAAN’s case, chef Kirk Westaway has made his Reinventing British menu his own, using seasonal produce to create dishes such as the immaculate English Garden featuring over 20 elements, fish and chips a la mini potato tartlets, and the confit hen’s egg with caviar, pickled shimeji, mushroom and celeriac custard.

But let’s not forget the other stellar restaurants, such as modern Australian barbecue restaurant Burnt Ends, slowly and steadily inching up at number 10, Les Amis restaurant coming in at number 33, Waku Ghin at number 40, and Corner House at number 49. Not to mention Singaporean chef Jimmy Lim of JL Studio in Taiwan’s win for the Miele One to Watch – Asia 2019 award.

Congratulations to all the restaurants!
