Starting with Asia’s 50 Best Bars Awards 2019, get set for another action-packed programme built around a gathering of some of the best bartenders in the region.
We’re looking forward to the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards making its debut in Singapore later this year. But first, on 9 May, it will be the second time that the Asia’s 50 Best Bar Awards is held at the Capitol Theatre in Singapore. Will top winners in last year’s edition such as Regent Singapore’s Manhattan Bar retain their bragging rights? New this year, Australia’s Four Pillars Gin comes on board as the official gin partner for Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2019 (and 2020). This sees them taking gin enthusiasts on bar hops to Singapore’s award-winning bars to learn and taste all things craft gin. They will also be bringing the Australian Gin Open (AGO) to Asia for the first time, and holding the grand finals in Singapore on 8 May.
Festival Village Festivities
As in previous years, the Empress Lawn at the heart of Singapore’s Civic District comes alive during the Singapore Cocktail Festival. This year’s edition from 10-12 May includes entertainment such as a daily live acts and DJ sets, and plenty of cocktails to try (at $12 nett per cocktail) amidst appearances by award-winning bars such as Tippling Club and Jigger & Pony from Singapore, Smalls from Bangkok,Thailand and Keepers from Seoul, South Korea.
There will also be a Food Street featuring restaurants such as Como Cuisine, and an Artisanal Spirits Tasting Room ($19nett for three 15ml tasting shots), where you can sample unusual drinks such as Skin Gin, Apoteca Gin and Maracatu Cachaca. The Barstylez International Bartender Championship will also see over 60 bartenders from 25 countries competing in the ‘flairing’ and ‘cocktail’ categories. From 10-18 May, drink lovers will also enjoy a slew of special events and promotions across the best bars in the city organised in conjunction with the Singapore Cocktail Festival.
