A toast to Singapore’s Top Restaurants 2018/2019‘s Special Award winners who made an extra impression.
Every year, apart from giving birth to our titles Wine & Dine and COOKBOOK, our other labour of love is producing Singapore’s Top Restaurants guide. This is where we, together with a tasting panel of industry experts, F&B insiders, food journalists, chefs and well-travelled gourmands, visit and review restaurants incognito. This year’s 2018/2019 edition features close to 400 restaurants and cuisines spanning across genres such as Latin American, Japanese, French and Modern Asian.
Congratulations to the stellar crop of restaurants featured in our book this year. To kick-start the celebrations, we held an intimate gathering for the recipients of our eight Special Awards and inaugural Industry Partnership Award. Co-hosted by the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i), it was held at Birds Of A Feather (BOAF) on 28 August.
Eight restaurants received our Special Awards this year:
Origin Grill for ‘Best New Restaurant Western’
Madame Fan for ‘Best New Restaurant Asian’
The Dempsey Cookhouse & Bar for ‘Best Ambience’
Firebake – Woodfired Bakehouse & Restaurant for ‘Best Casual Restaurant’
Whitegrass for ‘Most Creative Menu’
Racines for ‘Best New Concept’
Beach Road Kitchen for ‘Best Buffet’
Summer Pavilion for ‘Best Service’
The inaugural Industry Partnership Award presented by e2i went to Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), School of Coffee and Association of Bartenders & Sommeliers Singapore who worked together to launch The Liquid Room, a beverage training lab at NYP which nurtures the next generation of mixologists, tea and wine sommeliers and baristas.
Good conversation was not the only thing that flowed through the night. We enjoyed BOAF head chef Eugene See’s canapes such as charcoal grilled pork bits ramped up with marinated green chilli, fried Japanese sweet potato and crispy rice; smoked duck breast with quinoa and corn salad; and Bird’s mapo tofu with steam bun, paired with the night’s welcome drink, beers, wines and Cava. We hoped the winning restaurants did too, on their night off from their kitchens.
Meanwhile, look out for our Sep/Oct 2018 #BehindTheScenes of Singapore’s Top Restaurants issue of Wine & Dine, where we interview the six restaurants awarded top honours—three stars—in our House of Stars awards. In the coming weeks, our Singapore’s Top Restaurants Facebook and Instagram pages will also feature #BehindTheScenes videos of some of these top kitchens. And over at Singapore’s Top Restaurants, you can browse information on all the restaurants featured in our guide. Now that we’re linked with Chope and Quandoo, you can easily book a seat at participating restaurants too.
Cheers to another year of good eating and thanks for the food memories!
