By day, Kuro Izakaya is a ramen-donburi shop. By night, it transforms into a gastro-bar cosily lit by furoshiki-inspired lanterns.

The glass-lined contemporary restaurant, framed by tantalising rows of Japanese whisky, sake and shochu, serves up signature Kirin Krush, draft beer topped with a fluffy layer of frozen Kirin ($8), and seasonal whisky tasting flights.

For nibbles, we love their speciality Kuro kushiyaki platter ($36), comprising bacon-wrapped enoki, hotate (scallop) bacon, chicken yakitori, grilled king oyster mushroom and kurobuta pork on skewers. Other must-try items include onsen tamago ($12), a poached egg seated atop a bed of shirataki noodles adorned with yuzu peel, wasabi, ikura and baby cress; and smoked ajitsuke tamago ($8), a hickory smoked egg with a runny yolk centre with Hokkaido potato salad.
