Crackerjack, a new all-day café, bar and restaurant started by the people behind 28 HongKong Street, is the sort of place you don’t want to leave because there’s so much to keep you entertained.

Trust us, we were there for a three-hour media preview and the time just flew past. In the left corner of the house, US Barista Champion 2004 Bronwen Serna, formerly from The New Black, conducts a ‘cupping session’, where you taste-test coffee as you would wine. (Yup, complete with slurping in the coffee and swirling it in your mouth to get a good sense of mouthfeel, acidity and flavour.) These are lessons that Bronwen plans to offer to the public in due course at Crackerjack. Meanwhile, she’s happy to serve up coffees like espressos made with a Crackerjack ‘bona fide’ blend of beans from Brazil, Ethiopia and Colombia exclusively made for them by local roaster 2 Degrees North Coffee Co.

Front and centre is the bar, manned by dynamic duo, mixologists Peter Chua and Zachary de Git. Here you can try a range of classic and bespoke cocktails. We loved their tasty, refreshing and addictive Everything is Awesome! ($18), made up of St George’s Gin, Bianco Vermouth, Basil and clarified watermelon bubbles. And finally, to the right of the house, lies head chef Alysia Chan’s open kitchen. Don’t miss her Family Meal Whole Roasted Chicken ($58), which is moist, tender, full of flavour and a good enough reason in itself to pop by Crackerjack.

Oh and did we mention that there’s free WiFi and charging stations and plenty of natural light coming in through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Technically, Crackerjack is ideal for getting work done—if you can tear yourself away from the good distractions.
