The third edition of the coveted S.Pellegrino Young Chef Award returns with some tweaks in 2017/2018.

The selection process will now take 18 months to allow more time for talent-scouting and mentorship. The search will also be widened, with the inclusion of another geographical region, ‘Central America-Caribbean’. After rounds of local and regional competitions, 21 regional finalists will battle it out in a grand finale in June 2018. Last year’s winner, Mitch Leinhard from San Francisco’s Manresa restaurant, says that the award has given him “many unforgettable moments so far” and he looks forward to mentoring future competitors. We’ll have a chance to meet him when he comes to town for the World Gourmet Summit from 29-30 March. 

To apply, chefs must be 30 years old or younger and have at least one year’s experience as chef, sous chef or chef de partie. Past semi-finalists from Singapore have included top chefs like Kirk Westaway (Jaan), Chef Immanuel Tee (Garcons) and Chef Tan Kim Seng (Stellar at 1-Altitude).
