Italian designers Andrea Forti and Eleonora Dal Farra comb the Dolomite Mountains in Northeastern Italy regularly to find, oxymoronically, the best of fungi-infested wood. Sectioning them with a saw, they uncover some of the most unusual wood colours and dark lines found in the early stages of this element’s decay. This moment in nature’s time is then preserved by treating the wood and freezing its live edges in a special extra-clear resin, a process reminiscent of the way winter ice halts fungal activity. The 30 x 30 x 45 cm fungi stool, which comes with swivel castors or felt hidden at the bottom, is made with a dead apple tree.
