While most malt whiskies are matured mainly in American barrels before being finished off with a few months in Sherry butts. But Aberlour’s range of double cask matured whiskies see the raw new-make spirit undergo concurrent maturation in both Sherry butts and American oak barrels before being combined to create the finished product. The result is a richer, spicier, and deeper amber coloured liquid that draws from the very best of the two different woods—sweet vanilla from the American oak, and full-bodied fruitiness from the Sherry. Each Sherry cask is carefully selected by Aberlour craftsmen for their influence in creating the whisky’s distinct character and taste profile.
The complete range of double cask matured whiskies consists of the 12 Year Old, 16 Year Old, 18 Year Old, and the A’bunadh, which will only be available in select whisky bars.
