Emulating the urban chic of the underground scenes of New York and Hong Kong, Neon Pigeon, the latest addition to the Keong Saik strip, impresses with its elegant renditions of izakaya-style plates and hand-crafted cocktails. A semi-open concept kitchen provides entertainment amid the sophisticated interior of raw steel and exposed brick walls, the latter liberally splashed with contemporary graffiti for a scene reminiscent of Shibuya or the East Village.

Food-wise, the emphasis is on sharing: small plates allow groups of various sizes to grab a comprehensive sampling of the menu without busting their gut. Standout starters include the Smoked Pork Buns ($11), crispy and juicy slabs of meat dressed in a refreshing pickled daikon and ginger slaw; and the Roasted Bone Marrow ($18), its velvety texture perfectly accentuated by toasted furikake and crispy garlic. The Miso Black Cod soup ($10) is satisfyingly smoky with a rich dashi base, while the Miso-roasted Pumpkin Rice ($15) steals the show with its creamy risotto-like texture and fresh crunch of sugar snap peas. Wash it down with the refreshing yuzu and cucumber Throw A Kyuri-ken ($14), or the gin-based Harajuku Girl ($16) with punchy shiso leaf and plum bitters.
